We made the decision to downsize and we had looked at all the RV parks in Alberta. When we arrived at Dorchester Ranch Resort, we knew this was the place for us! The not being close to noisy roads or airports provided much desired tranquility, while the proximity to the village provided convenience, and most of all it was the great people that spoke community more than anything else. To all that are looking to downsize I would consider Dorchester Ranch Resort, where you can see the Northern Lights while sitting by the fire or drop by your neighbour’s and always feel welcomed.
With campsites getting harder and harder to find without booking way ahead, my wife and I were looking for a permanent spot to purchase and eventually call our summer home. I will be honest, it was a rainy day and we took a little drive around Pigeon Lake and quite by chance came upon Dorchester Ranch Resort at the end of a road. What the heck, we talked to the hyper little sales guy there and he was so friendly and informative that we left with a bunch of information to read back at the provincial campground and after several beers decided we would go back the next day and put down a deposit. While there were development challenges in the beginning, we have fallen in love with this place and dub it … “our happy place”. We sure appreciate the friendly folks here who always have community or neighbourhood bonfires and potlucks and the golf course is one of the best in the province. We are looking forward to retirement when we can spend all our summer days right here at Dorchester Ranch Resort. When complete this development will be the envy of campers everywhere…..oh ya…the hyper little sales guy is still around whenever we need info or help with anything.
My wife Wendy and I lived in Leduc Alberta for 33 years where we raised our four children. In 2014 with the kids all grown and children of their own we decided that it was time for us to start thinking about retirement. At this time we lived in a three bedroom home with a fully developed basement, Wendy spent a lot of time cleaning the whole house when we actually only used a couple of the rooms and I spent a lot of time maintaining and repairing things in the house and yard.
On August 7, 2014 we both retired from our jobs. On August 19 we signed an agreement to purchase a lot in Dorchester Ranch Resort. We purchased a park model and moved onto the lot in June 2015 and have not regretted it for a moment. We have a fantastic view from our deck overlooking the 13th fairway. Every day we take our dog for a walk, everyone in the park knows his name, the people here are not in a rush and everyone has time to chat. If you ever need a hand to do anything someone is always around and willing to help. We all enjoy having a good time, we have several potluck supper parties each year and there is always a great turnout. Most evenings you will find someone in your area is having a campfire, the saying in the park is “if you see smoke, come on over.” To us, the people in this park are our Dorchester Ranch Resort family.Wendy and I now spend the days doing the things that we enjoy. In the evenings there are beautiful sunsets, later we sit in our hot tub looking at all the stars and listening to the coyotes howl.Where has the summer gone, another month and we will be head south to stay with our Mesa family until spring.
“Retiring to the Dorchester Ranch Resort was one of the best decisions my husband and I ever made. Downsizing from an acreage to a park model with an addition was a bit of a challenge but worth it! The extra large year round lots provide ample space for anything your imagination can come up with. But it’s the community of people who make this place special. Potluck dinners are held throughout the year and neighbours are always available to help you out. Visiting while sitting around a bonfire is always a big hit!! Golfing the 18 hole course that surrounds the park is a great pastime and sometimes just watching other golfers is quite the entertaining thing to do! Whether spending a quiet evening on our deck stargazing and listening to the howl of coyotes and our local owl, or hanging with good friends, Dorchester Ranch Resort is the place we call home and it’s where we want to be!!”
We had our RV at a resort in BC for 10 years. We travelled the 6 hour trip from Edmonton every second weekend. It was a long drive to a beautiful place that we enjoyed very much. We noticed an advertisement about Dorchester Ranch Resort on our way out one time and laughed that it would be nice to be closer to our happy place. We did some research and finally went to see the resort one afternoon. We could see the vision with the help of the sales team and left really thinking about a big change. We could enjoy it more often being closer to the resort and eventually retire there and still be close to family. We made the decision and purchased our lot the next weekend. We have enjoyed working on our lot to make it a place we will be happy retiring at. The community that we are building is full of wonderful friends and neighbours. We are enjoying golfing and socializing like we have never done before.
I bought at Dorchester Ranch Resort as there were no HOA fees or membership fees, golf was close by and it was a 4 season development. I enjoy the winters as much as I do the summers. The tranquility of the winter nights along with snowshoeing and cross country skiing makes for an amazing winter get away from the city. I have made many great friends and enjoy getting together with them and having a beverage or two by the evening fire.
After years of pulling our trailer around the province and trying to find a campground that had an open spot on the weekends and once we did the lots were so close together we didn’t have the peace and quiet we were looking for. At Dorchester Ranch Resort the lots are very large and planned out in a way that you don’t get the feeling of being crammed in . The trailer is set up all the time with no more pulling it all over the place so instead of the headaches of trying to get set up, all we do now is drive out and turn on the power and its relax time with a view of the river valley and the peace and quiet we were looking for.
We love the flexibility of a four season resort. Very low maintenance costs keep this easy-going rural lifestyle affordable. The fantastic 18 hole picturesque and challenging golf course is any golfer’s dream. We have no regrets in downsizing from our 5 bedroom acreage property. This peaceful, quiet and serene community is a beautiful paradise to share with our awesome neighbours for our retirement years.
“We have been living full time in our motorhome now for about 6 years so when a friend of ours had suggested that we go and look at a new place that was selling RV sites we were quite interested. We had looked at quite a few places over a period of time. We were looking for somewhere to eventually retire. We are however not golfers but really enjoyed the beautiful views and the quiet country atmosphere at Dorchester Ranch Resort. The fact that The Village At Pigeon Lake is so close was an added bonus. I liked the idea that we had so many conveniences so close. The lots were a vary good size but the thing that really sealed the deal for us was the fact that there were no HOA or maintenance fees. Going into retirement that was huge for us. After a few years we decided to buy a park model because we knew that we would really like to spend much more time out there and call it home. We really love how the people of this community come together not only to help one another out but to socialize as well. There are many pot luck dinners, birthday parties and bon fires. What a great community to be a part of and we really look forward to retiring out there one day.
